What servers are the WoWers on?
I'd like to see if we're on matching servers, and if not, I can look into getting some transfers done :)

I'm thinking that we could all start new characters on the same server, preferably a newish server that doesn't already have a ton of lvl 70s running around. Everyone would need to lvl to about 10 or so before we could leave the starting zones and join up but after that it could rock pretty good.
Plus with all the regular players there, we should have plenty of free trial invites for anyone else who would like to play. Just have to make sure they have access to their email through webmail or something.
Incidentally, at least 4-5 of the people coming to W.O.L.F III already have characters on Greymane. Maybe you could look into transferring there... though it does cost $25. -Hellfire

Unfortunately no, but I have a free transfer voucher because Blizzard screwed up one of my transfers from Hellscream.
I have no issues with starting on a new server: as long as it's a PvP server.
I'm not a big fan of PvE or straight up RP. My prefered type is of course, RP-PvP :)
A note on starting on a new server: I agree that it should be on a less populated one. The one thing I want to avoid if we have to start with low chars is the twinkage that goes on in the 10 - 19 tier of WSG. A new server in a new battle group should reduce the chances of us coming up against a lvl 19 twink sporting +15 agi chants on both daggers >.<

I think you might be out in the cold on that one, especially if we're introducing a lot of new players to the game. I wouldn't mind watching over your shoulder though as I haven't tried a PvP server yet, nor spent much time (any really) in BG's or arenas. -Hellfire

Hey, as long as I'm playing WoW it's cool.
I'd like to be able to introduce people to battlegrounds though, especially since its a LAN party setup. It's a lot of fun, especially if everyone is organized and moves as a team. Most of the time, the side that loses in Warsong Gulch is due to a lack of communication between players. "Oops, I crit my pants!" ~ UD Rogue: Maelstorm

I have a lvl 49.5 Dark Elf hunter on Durotan server. He's only lvl49.5 (with loads of rested XP)... because I've been playing the battlefields for honor points. Starting a new toon on a new server is going to be a pain for me unless I could possibly get some help cash-wise from an established player on the server we decide to go with. (night elf hunters don't get any decent cash flow until close to lvl20). I've only been playing for 2.5 months, but I have the best gear gold can buy (without buying epic gear) and I still have over 400 gold sitting waiting to be spent. Paying a few gold back shouldn't be a problem once my character is established as I'm so good at raising cash I've been accused of hacking the game.
Getting a server transfer would be completely out of the question for me as the server and guild I'm with now has 6 co-worker/friends on it with the promise of more in the near future...

I'm completely open to suggestions on how to handle WoW at W.O.L.F. I have no intention of dictating which server we play on and I'm fully aware of just how far you can lvl a new toon in two days of playing. (If we all start new characters, it'll be lvl 10+ until we can actually play together due to the perils of traversing the Wetlands.) If someone (or a few someone's on the same server) is already well established and willing to help twink some new toons, then maybe that will be enough to get things rolling. I know I'd be willing to put up a few G to make that happen and even do some DM runs with the newbs.
I guess what I'm really hoping will happen is that we'll all get to meet each other and "make new friends" and introduce a few more people to WoW. Then once W.O.L.F has come and gone we'll still find time to play together, with the experinced players helping the new guys out and everyone having fun even when we're not all in the same room. Anyone want to host a free server? -Hellfire

funny you should ask...
one of my favorite side projects is my private server :)
If you're at all interested, I can host a private server on my laptop (mind you, I've never actually stress-tested this system) and then we don't have to worry about leveling toons. However, this limits us to playing only with/against the players attending that weekend (ie: no online play).
I use MaNGOS, and I can set the XP rate to anything you want. However, like all other private servers out there, it's not perfect. Blizzard made it damn near impossible to duplicate their game exactly, there's a whole crapload of scripts missing from the packaged game and I'm not 'l33t' enough tear apart Blizz's scripting.
Downfalls of the private server: - Hunter pet scripts are missing. I've placed a few modded ones in there that allows you to summon and send attack, but beast master Hunter's can kiss their spec goodbye because it's completely useless. There are no damage modifiers to speak of. - Some spells act kinda funny. I dunno how to stop the GM command spells (ie: the AoE spell damage for 1kazillion dmg pnts per hit) from interfering with the mage spells. You get odd glitches where sometimes a mage's arcane explosion would wipe clear a dungeon. Was pretty funny when I was testing it with friends, but not so funny if you're in the middle of actually playing the stupid instance. - Rogue's are broken. Funny as that may be... they are. Their damage modifiers, like the pets, are nonexistent. Funnily enough, the warriors and paladin's remain in tact. *shrugs* No idea what Blizz was thinking on that one... but anyway, stealth is lovely but without your damage bursts the rogue is more or less useless. Agility does nothing to help boost your damage so no amount of chants or stat boosting will help.
Upside of the private server: - Good place to introduce new players to WoW. No chance of being ganked, and you can show them the world of warcraft without having to run into monsters (I love the /summon command :P) - Good place to introduce to battlegrounds, but all you'll get is Warsong Gulch. I have no idea where Blizzard hides their Arathi Basin or Alterac Valley files. - You can boost your newly created character to level 70 and flaunt around in armor you've always wanted to wear. Good fun.
I should note, you will NOT be using existing warcraft accounts for a private server. You'll create brand new ones, with different username/passwords, and then you'll be able to create any character of your choice. With pretty much unlimited GM commands at your finger tips, you can rip Azeroth apart, then return to the real servers for a bit of Blizzard fun.
The only thing you need to change, is the destination login IP to mine. That's it. Takes nothing to set up. "Oops, I crit my pants!" ~ UD Rogue: Maelstorm

That sounds quite interesting and could be loads of fun. It could also help get around another concern I have which is having too many people playing WoW and saturating the ADSL connection. I have no idea how many people it can handle but I'm optimistically hoping 10 or so isn't too many. While the church staff are there on Friday (until around 4:00PM or so) we'll have to make sure we leave them some bandwidth. After that we can use the full connection.
Where does one go to get started setting up one of these free servers? Also, we may have a spare machine that can host a server, depending on the requirements.

I have started a new character on the Greymane server, Jexijames (night elf hunter), and am already lvl8.5... any chance someone could throw me a few gold or 10? I'm an AH shark and could most likely have the borrowed sum back within a couple days... |

If we've decided to play on Greymane, I can start making gold now. Shouldn't be hard, full gatherer and walmart AH prices. *shrugs* its how I get my start off of new servers.
As for setting it up a localized WoW server on an extra machine:
It can be done, but I'll have to spend a good few hours tweaking the server. My server is already set up, scripts in place, item SQL DB etc. I can transfer it easily enough to a new system, just takes time. If you're just looking to go in there for some fun time, ie: messing around, no actual dedicated gameplay, then I can set up the basic server no problem. I have all the programs necessary to set up a virtual host to run the SQL databases and I can transfer those to any machine that has the space and power to run it.
If you want to actually test gameplay and have a smooth running sever... Honestly, if you want to introduce someone to "proper" WoW gameplay, I recommend doing it on an actual Blizzard server anyway - and between all the WoWers I'm sure we have enough free trial game passes for that :P
I'll prepare my machine for hosting a temp WoW server. I run a 2.0ghz Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 with 2GB RAM (it's an Asus laptop hehe) and I've never had an issue with latency - the most I've tested is 5 people logging in at the same time though.

That sounds like a good plan. If it bogs your laptop to run the server and let you play I may have a spare machine that you could use instead. Its a P4 2.4Ghz with 1Gb RAM and a 7800GS. It also looks like Greymane may be the server of choice if anyone else is interested in starting new toons on it before the weekend. Not sure what the wait times are like in the free queues though for trial accounts. -Hellfire
