BfME 1 would be better in terms of gameplay and strategy. It's a bit slower, but a better game overall. The only reason you would play BfME 2 is because you like things to look pretty or you want more variety. Given, the extra races that BfME 2 has is nice, but I'd rather play BfME 1 just for balance reasons.
