Blow and Load of XP
Modified By Hellfire on 6/5/2007 1:49:10 PM)
Yo fellow Wolfers... I am going to be following in the time honoured tradition of doing a full blow and load on my machine this week just in time for WOLF III. I would encourage as many of you as possible to do the same thing for a few reasons:

1. It will be a huge performance increase!
2. You will have all the latest hardware drivers installed
3. You won't have any useless weather apps cluttering up your system tray
4. I won't have to help you fix your damn computer when it chucks on a game that is 10 years old

So get your stuff backed up and get it done!

I'll be doing this as well. My entire computer is lagging out like crazy lately and it freaked out this past weekend when I vacuumed out the dust. Definitely looking forward to having a lean and mean machine for W.O.L.F.

I always thought vacumes and PC's were a bad combination - static electricity and all. Compressors blow water. That air in a can is all I thought one should use. Am I out of date on this?

That's a really good point...  And my vacuum in particular is pretty bad for that too. Things seem to have settled down now though so hopefully I'm okay.

I picked up a removable hard drive caddy with a spare tray.  I'm gonna leave my work system as is and just swap the hard drive for a new clean one.  I'll build out a nice clean gaming image and then just swap hard drives as needed.  Eventually I'll blow my current one away but I can't really afford the down time (1-2 days for a full rebuild) at the moment.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't use a vacuum. Air compressor is fine as long as you don't have a lot of water in the tank. Always a good thing to do a quick test to see if it's spitting water out... The cans of compressed air can blow liquid propellant as well if you are not careful. Generally they work the best though. Not quite as high pressure as an air compressor which is better for the fans since spinning them beyond their running RPM can damage the bushings or bearings. Brimstone
