Okay so Steam used to work on Vista, then my laptop fried, Asus had to replace the motherboard and now the re-installation of Steam doesn't seem to work properly.
Basically, my CS 1.6 and Source games no longer run, it keeps giving me a "cannot find Steam protocol" error. Tried editing the reg file, didn't work. Tried removing the reg file and reinstalling, didn't work either. Tried running it as Vista admin, tried turning off a bunch of Vista protections, and still nothing. Basically, my entire collection of Valve games no longer work on Vista.
Grr... my FPS addiction is starting to kick in and BF2 just isn't cutting it anymore. Does anyone know how to get Steam to work with Vista? Combed through their support pages but they're not very helpful. Was hoping another geek in cyberland would have a better answer :)
