W.O.L.F V Is Coming!

Has it been too hot to game this summer?  Yes?  I'm not surprised!

W.O.L.F V is fast approaching (Saturday, July 12th through Sunday, July 13th) and it's time to determine who's coming and what we're going to be playing. This time around we're going to have a little bit more organized game play. No ladders or tournaments, but we will try to get as many people playing the same games at the same time as possible.

To that end I have created a survey on www.fragged.com. Please take a minute to complete fill it out. If the game you really really want to play is not on the survey, send me an email and I'll consider adding it. Just because its not on the survey doesn't mean you can't bring it and play it anyway! (NOTE: You'll need to login to complete the survey. If you don't have an account go ahead and create one, it's free!)

I know this is short notice we just got everything organized and we want to get it happening right away; we will try to have them more often as well! This time the event will be hosted in a different venue, and is being hosted by Rackster Hosting (in their data centre, so we will be well ventilated and cooled!!).

This time around we are going to go with a BBQ for food, we will be providing hot dogs and hamburgers for everyone, if you want to bring something else to cook on the BBQ that's fine too, there will also be plenty of munchies and pop.

I'll send out an email on Monday so that you can have time to check out the games we will be playing and get them if you need to. Remember, we don't supply pirated games at these events. If you don't have it and you'd like to play it, go out and get it! We will also provide directions in the email that goes out on Monday, so that everyone can get here.

Rackster is providing the bandwidth so we will not have any latency issues, they have a full GigE back bone with fiber uplink as well as some static ip's if we need more then one, so we wont have people disconnecting like last time. We also wont have any power issues, 3 phase power with UPS and generator backup, will keep us all online and ready to go.

That's it for this update.  Don't forget to complete the survey and make sure you invite all your friends!

Rogers Ruined the iPhone

On Friday Rogers announced the contract rates for the iPhone in Canada.  Suffice it to say they have made it pretty much unaffordable. Don't take my word for it though, check out their rate plans here:

http://www.rogers.com/web/content/wireless-products/iphone_voice_data_packages

With those rates you're looking at $2160 +iPhone over three years for their most basic plan with no extra features (eg, call display).  If you go for the full package, which by the way is not unlimited like they are in the US, you'll end up paying $4860 +iPhone over 36 months.  As a friend of mine pointed out, that's a pretty expensive toy.

What can you do about it?  Head on over to RuinediPhone.com and sign their petition.  While you're there give them a Digg as well.

W.O.L.F IV Officially a Success
Thank you to everyone who came out and made W.O.L.F IV a success! We had a lot more people show up than expected but thanks to OceanWolf we had plenty of tables and chairs setup and ready to go!

Thanks again to our official sponsor, Provision Data Systems and to our "unofficial" sponsor, Disney Interactive.

Many of you are already asking when the next event will be. We haven't picked a date yet so stay tuned to the web site (www.fragged.com) and make sure you set your spam filter to allow email from fragged.com.

Don't forget to check the forums from time to time as well. We're going to create a new board for posting games, times and servers that you're playing on from home. We also host Teamspeak and Ventrillo servers so if that's something that interests you, drop me a line.

Once again, thank you for coming out and having a great time! We're looking forward to the next event and hope you'll come out again.

-Hellfire & Brimstone
W.O.L.F IV IS ON NOW!
Day one of W.O.L.F IV was success and we had a surprisingly good turnout! I managed a personal best in Starcraft last night. Yup, I survived a whole 10 minutes and 54 seconds against the computer! We also had some good rounds of Battlefield 2 with Carbon Snake flying air support, Canloan leanding the ground assault and Brimstone heading up the motor pool in his fast attack. I even manage to pick off a few friendlies with my sniper rifle, when I wasn't on my back looking up at the sky!

If you didn't show you missed out on some great gaming. But don't fret! We've still got more than 16 hours to go and that's plenty of time to pwn some n00bs! Remember we provide all the Coke you can drink and pizza for dinner around 6:00PM. The cost is $10 if you stay for dinner or $5 if you come after dinner.

February 2, 2008 - Hellfire
W.O.L.F IV Update
We're on for February 1st-2nd. There's just enough people committed to coming to make it worth setting up all the tables and pulling in a network connection.

The "organized" games of choice seem to be Battlefield 2 for FPS and Starcraft for RTS. We'll plan to play Starcraft on Friday evening after dinner and Battlefield 2 on Saturday after dinner. I'm not saying you can't play other games during those times, or that you can't play those games during other times, just that we'll try and get everyone to play the same games after dinner.

So, if you don't have Battlefield 2 or Starcraft (and their expansions), go out and get them! Remember, we don't supply pirated games and both of those are old enough that if you dont' have them you should be able to pick them up very economically.

By the way, we will be starting on Friday, February 1st at 11:30 AM. I know... that cuts into your gaming time a bit but we got double booked with the Future Gamers Guild (aka Preschoolers). Don't worry about it though... I'm sure you'll all appreciate the chance to sleep in a little so you can be bright eyed and bushy tailed all day through until the wee hours of the morning.

We've got room for more people still, so get your friends fired up and come on out! I'm pretty sure we'll be able to get a bit of Counterstrike going for you die hards and maybe even some Scorched 3D!
W.O.L.F IV Survey

W.O.L.F IV is fast approaching and it's time to determine who's coming and what we're going to be playing. This time around we're going to have a little bit more organized game play. No ladders or tournaments, but we will try to get as many people playing the same games at the same time as possible.

Please take a minute to complete the survey over there --->. If the game you really really want to play is not on the list, send me an email and I'll consider adding it. Just because its not on the survey doesn't mean you can't bring it and play it anyway! (NOTE: You'll need to login to complete the survey. If you don't have an account go ahead and create one, it's free!)

I'll send out an email the week before W.O.L.F IV so that you can have time to get the games we'll be playing. Remember, we don't supply pirated games at these events. If you don't have it and you'd like to play it, go out and get it!

This time we won't be organizing any World of Warcraft play.  Last time it was too disjointed because very few players were on the same servers.  If you're a WoW player, feel free to come out and hang with us anyway.  We might hassle you a bit for playing a snobby MMORPG but trust me, you'd rather have us giving you a hard time than your significant other flipping the breaker on you.

Speaking of breakers... many of you will recall the (scary) power issues we had last time.  We've got an electrician and an electrical engineer helping us out this time so hopefully blown breakers are a thing of the past.

Don't forget to complete the survey and make sure you invite all your friends!

W.O.L.F IV Update

Don't say we never listen to you because we do! There were quite a few people who had conflicts with the last weekend in January so I'm now looking at February 1-2, 2008 instead. Other than that the response has been great and everyone seems pretty excited about another event.

So far the most requested games are Battlefied 2, Counter-Strike 1.6 (and CS-Source), Starcraft and Supreme Commander. We'll finalize the list closer to the event so keep your requests coming in.

In the mean you've got 47 days to make up for all the naughty things you've done this year. So clean up your act and make sure that Santa puts some new hardware under the tree for you.

W.O.L.F IV is Coming!

We're tentatively looking at January 25-26 February 1-2, 2008 and would follow the same format as last time.

We haven't selected any games to play yet (we'll see what Santa puts in our stockings) but we'll probably skip World of Warcraft this time around since most people were on different servers and we didn't really end up playing together much. (If you are interested in a WoW only event, email me right away as we might be able to pull off a small one in a basement somewhere...).  In the past we've neglected RTS games but if there is enough interest this time we can schedule a particular game to try and maximize the number of players.

So stay tuned and get your cohorts to register on this site!

W.O.L.F III Officially a Success

WOLF-III-Action.jpg

It's over. Its taken me a few days to recover, but I've finally got my PC plugged back in and am slowly catching up on my sleep. Of course my dreams are still filled with mages freezing my feet to the ground while rogues sneak up behind me for a 2000 point ambush. And just as I escape that, some yahoo wearing a rebel flag tosses a grenade at my feet and it's all over. Only to start again moments later when a bullet from Brimstone's sniper rifle whizzes past my ear.

By my count we had 27 players out for the weekend which more than doubles our previous record! It was great to meet all of you and get some real good playing time in. Gone are the days when Brimstone and Hellfire dominate the ladders though... but never fear, we're both raising boys who will kick your butt in any game of your choice by the time they're three years old.

A good number of you are already asking when W.O.L.F IV will be. Well, we are tentatively planning for November and will post a poll to find out which weekend would work for the most people. Additionally we are putting together a short survey for you to complete (anonymously if you prefer) so that we can improve the next event.

In the mean time, stay active in the forums and get your friends to sign up. While we won't be hosting another W.O.L.F event until November, we do have a few smaller things planned for between now and then. You'll only find out if you're registerd on this site and have activated your account.
